Public bug reported:
My Dell XPS M1530 will not suspend when the lid is closed. The settings
are all appropriately set. The lid close and open events are being
recognized by dbus, but for some reason, GPM is ignoring the lid close.
Suspend works fine if I choose Suspend from the menu or if I

I had the same bug, and in my case, I manually stopped the
plexmediaserver (which I had manually installed) before trying to
shutdown. This solved the problem. My guess is that there is a daemon
process running as a user that gnome-session sees as being logged in.
I'm not sure how gnome-session
Yep. 7.0+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu3 reintroduces the bug.

Actually, it is still present, but I fixed it myself. I forgot I had
filed this bug or I would have posted the solution here. The problem is
caused by the SD card reader built into the laptop. I keep a memory card
in it pretty much all the time. For some reason the reader prevents the
laptop from
This problem still occurs in the final release. It occurs in both the 32

@Henry: No, this failure occurs each and every time after installation.
That would be a separate bug.
It seems that this problem only occurs on Ubuntu (the Gnome version).
Kubuntu suspends and resumes just fine, so this probably isn't a kernel
problem. I'm not sure where the differences start
The problem also occurs when hibernating.

Fully updated karmic system. Fails to suspend. The system blanks the
screen and there's some hard drive activity, but the backlight stays on,
and the power light never begins to fade in and out (as it would if
suspended). This worked just fine in jaunty. I tried it with and

Indeed, mobile broadband works just fine with Gnome's nm-applet. This is
peculiar to plasma-widget-network-manager.

It means that it's fixed in the upload. It takes time for the packages to build
from the source upload and then propagate to the mirrors. Give it a few hours.

This also leaves out the usecase of launching Knode separately from
Kontact while using Kubuntu. I don't like having it integrated, so I
launch it distinctly from Kontact. I think removing the .desktop entry
was a solution looking for a problem.

Could you also tell us what sort of graphics card you have? It's
recognized as a 3dfx Voodoo Banshee. Is that correct?
I'm assuming this was a fresh install. Did you install from the LiveCD,
or the alternate? If you used the LiveCD, did everything work right
during the install?

Unfortunately, there is no open source driver currently available for
this camera. There is at least one project[1] underway to implement a
driver. They seem quite active, but they are still in the very early
stages. You might consider contributing your input to their project.

Thanks for the bug report. I'm assuming that you're using krdc to create
your remote connections. I've changed the source package to reflect
this. If not, could you provide the name of the actual application you
are using to make your connections?
Also, are you creating RDP or VNC connections?
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 51256 ***
Thanks for the bug report. It is disabled because the packages required
for this feature have not been installed yet. This is resolved by
installing the samba and nfs-kernel-server packages.

I can confirm this bug, but I am not sure it can be adequately resolved
given Ubuntu's no open ports policy. As this is a kdenetwork issue,
I've changed the source package to reflect this.

The problem is only getting worse. It appears that Mozilla doesn't want
