I've found the same problem on Hardy. So I don't think it is kernel related at
all.
If I disable compiz I get the correct password request dialog. With compiz
enabled I get a white screen.

network manager ppp doesn't support evdo/gprs/umts data cards
Setting up a wired interface with dhcp or static IP is simply a workaround.
The problem is that NM don't see active interfaces like ppp0.
I hope that someone here will listen to my prayers and will mark this bug as

I've found how to bypass the offline issue.
Configure the wired connection disabling roaming mode and select static IP,
you could use IP adress like 192.168.0.1 and netmask 255.255.255.0.
After reboot NM is switched to online and you can use all the applications that
take care of nm status
Please mark this as confirmed and at a higher priority 'cause it's a blocker
for everyone who has a dial-up or a not always-on connection.
Until NM and nm-applet doesn't take care of connected interfaces other than eth
or wlan it's a big problem.

I can confirm this... Trackerd is a pain... It uses 50% of my cpu when indexing
(I have a core2duo 6300 with 2Gb ram!!!)

So far I disabled all desktop effect and firefox is running smootly without any
crash. Maybe there is a compatibility problem with compiz-fusion. My
configuration is:
AMD Athlon xP 2800+
512Mb ram
ATI Radeon 7000

I tried to delete the profile, but without any results. Opera web browser
worked fine. I resolved the problem disabling all desktop effect. Maybe there
is a compatibility problem between compiz-fusion and firefox 2.0.0.11 in my

have installed opera as web browser to see if the problem presents also

was trying to watch a trailer from apple quicktime site: I first see a messagge

It actually happens in Gutsy with pdftk's latest deb build, 1.40-2ubuntu3
(depending on newest gcj1-8 libraries).
If you install it then run it with something on the command line, e.g. 'pdftk
file1.pdf file2.pdf output file1-2.pdf' it will output a list of Java
