What i observe running lucid 32bit on a MSI CS110

efax establishes a working connection to receiving fax, but the
transmission times out with a 'framing error' and is considered
unsuccesful, then modem hangs up with 'invalid modem reponse' error.

I can confirm this bug on intrepid.
totem-xine crashes when attempting to watch TV on adapter 0, while xine-ui or
calling totem-xine with a DVB://[channelname] URI works.
DVB-T card in my case, ~/.xine/channels.conf known to be well formed.

This seems to be the problem. totem-xine doesn't seem to like non-english
characters in channel.conf.
i tried a channels.conf where i edited out all channels with non-us
characters it works

That was true for the dapper kernel, but is no longer.
See my link to the changelog entry for the feisty kernel.i have tracked down
that this is the change introducing the bug.
So either reenabling pata_amd or running without libata totally would fix it
IMHO.

Ok, after the anger about a lost day (because an ubuntu kernel update
resulted in a deployment of 5 machines not booting anymore) has settled, let
my try to turn this into some useful bugreport.

Hmmm simply changing the status to invalid just doesn't solve the

dist-upgraded, got 2.6.20-15.*27* and, as hdagelic said, the problem reappears

So with the -15 kernel the problem with *vlc* still persists, but after getting
some advice on IRC a test with mplayer / xixne showed, that the card is indded
working.

After a fresh dapper(server) install, the running dosfstools-
filesystemcheck chose to truncate all the files of my backup images
(living on a fat32 fs and having 4294967295 bytes length, because thats
the maximum on fat 32) to zero bytes
After I discovered the right wiki page here are the relevant logs:

physically disconnect the DVD-Drive. This made the problem go away.
So it's the kernel waiting for the DVD-Drive, where no medium is inserted.
