LiveCD is terribly dated, requiring 140Mb + of updates after installing.

Same problem (or result) today after upgrade via apt-get on a Compaq
900 laptop.
Rebooting after the upgrade fails at the Xserver. Trying startx from the
command line gives the following errors:

OpenOffice does not appear on the LiveCD but OpenOffice 3.1.1 is
installed
Abiword and Gnumeric are on the LiveCD and are also installed.
