I installed the latest elementary OS Loki 0.4.1 (based on Ubuntu) onto
an Acer C730 (GNAWTY) chromebook with FULL firmware from MrChromebox.
It is also impacted by this issue since the kernel is linux-image-4.8.0

fatal error - Java Runtime Environment: SIGSEGV C
my system crashed (my fault) and i decided to re-install. if synsptic is
attempting to replace my previous install of MySQL with an older
version, its not what i asked for. that said i'm verry new at all this

FWIW - I also had trouble with this on 14.04 LTS.
I did 2 things, the latter of which I think is the reason I was able
install:
1. Recreated the USB using the startup-disk-creator in Ubuntu itself

2. Plugged the USB stick into a USB 2 (black) slot, as opposed to USB 3
(blue)

If you have changed which files are generated, for instance by changing
the configure options, then you can't use dpkg-buildpackage (or debuild)
without changing the various *.install files. You can still compile and
manually, but you will need to edit the various packaging files if you
want to

distributed in (K)Ubuntu and Debian, which does not use the static plugins.

Can't seem to get libvirtd to start segfaults.

Here is the GDB output, seems to get past this step if I remove the offending
XML file but then fails on the next file
