FYI, the bug is not actually fixed in Debian yet either. They have
patched their package with the fix for the ss_len issue (committed
upstream as
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gdm/commit/?id=832d49174f86782b7e2b994e86357582c9d69ed6)
and with the fix for the ::: (not yet committed upstream), but
Weird. It probably worked on 64-bit because of a coincidence of the
stack layout.
The problem definitely got worse in gdm 2.30.5 though because it's
broken on 64-bit too and that patch doesn't fix the problem. (As noted
in the upstream bug report, there's an issue with an invalid ::: in

that --enable-ipv6=no worked around the first two issues (the ss_len

and discovered I was able to reboot if I unloaded mptspi, mptscsih, and

I had this bug on 9.10 too. I just updated to 10.04 and the bug is still
here. The progress bar never moves and cannot be used to skip forwards.
But the timer does work and the player does advance to the next song.

confirmed since many people say they experience it.
I observe the bug with vnc4server, but not with a Vino connection to a
real display. This is similar to johnny b's observation that it happens
with TightVNC but not X11vnc.

I am facing this bug too, but no matter what I do I have never got it to
connect. I only just set up my user name on Facebook in order to use this
feature - so I do not know if that is relevant or related in some way.

As soon as I tried that, and then opened Empathy again, Empathy is now
working, even though it hasn't been for nearly a week. It seems I had to
open and use Pidgin first.

Yes it works fine in Pidgin. Pidgin asks for my email address and not
Facebook user name though.
