The only solution that worked for me was to remove gstreamer0.10
-plugins-bad - then I could play mp4s, and they thumbnailed ok.
Unfortunately, this also nixed minitube (which was not working well
either).

Confirmed on one installation, but not on another.
I don't know if this helps, but I also had three locales installed on
the installation where this happened, but these were incompletely
installed at upgrade to oneiric. Reinstalling/resetting the locales
seemed to solve the problem.

Ok, I've reproduced it - pressing a volume up/down media key kills the
left button on either a keyboard with a built-in touch pad or on a
standard Microsoft USB mouse. Tested on two computers running 32-bit
Maverick, one of which was a clean install, one an upgrade from Lucid.

Ditto on Maverick. Left mouse button fails after a few seconds of
playing music or video on either totem or rhythmbox (Intel Corporation
N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01) sound, in
case that helps). Using keyboard with integrated touch pad, neither the
left-hand mouse butto
