I fixed this by removing the Intel graphics installer and the packages
it installed. There is something wrong with the drm module that it
supplies which in turn messes up the nvidia driver.
sudo apt-get purge i915* intel-linux-graphics-installer

even though the DKMS builds seemed to complete ok.

Temp solution - loading the 3.8.0-16 and running `sudo dpkg-reconfigure
nvidia-310` and then everything is fine if you enter this kernel and not 17.

Kamus, thank you, but I found strange banshee-process in process-list yesterday.
I killed it and then banshee successfully started.
i.e., banshee was started when I attempted to start it, but banshee-icon
in the unity-panel was unlighted :( Also, there was no signs of started
banshee in sound-pane
