This camera still does not work under the new kernels.
I can get it recognised using this procedure:

Yes, I am using the Nvidia restricted drivers to run Beryl. But I have
also had the freezes on the same system running compiz. Without
additional applets, I have been running for over a day now without
problems.
This is going to be fun to solve.

I am seeing similar behaviour, but I don't have AMD64. Mine started
soon after I added applets (weather applet) to the panel. Seems to have
gone once I removed the applet.
Anything similar in your problem?

Currently, I am running beryl and I think I found a trend in my case.
See if you can replicate it.
If I add any more applets to the panel at the top, then I find that the
machine will go to blank screen and never come out

Confirmed. The vga=791 does fix the colour problem, but the image still
seems to be too large for the screen, i.e. it appears shifted towards
the top of the screen.

Since kernel 2.6.17-7, the boot parameter in /boot/grub/menu.lst is set
to /dev/sda1. Of four machines that are running latest Edgy, only one
will boot (it is SATA).
On the remaining machines, I have the manually change /dev/sda1 to
/dev/hda1 to get the machines to boot.

I can only get my 2.6.17-7 kernel to boot (same symptoms and 2.6.17-6
boots fine) by changing /dev/sda1 to /dev/hda1 in the kernel parameters.
I have 3 (older) machines that exhibit the same behaviour. A fourth
(more recent) machine boots fine, but it has a SATA disk.
