I'm affected by this bug. I recently upgraded my HP Mini 5103 laptop
from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04, and this problem appeared.
Similar to what ITec reports in comment #60, when using an older 3.0.0
kernel the problem is not there, but when booting into 3.2.0 it shows

most annoying (makes the autohide-panel mostly useless).

You can test it manually too: run "./autofs suspend" as root before selecting
suspend from the menu, and see if it helps. Any/all unused autofs shares should
be umounted by the script.
But I don't know if the 10.10 suspend setup is similar to

Here's a script I created that seems to work on my system for this
purpose. I placed it in /etc/pm/sleep.d/80_autofs
Of course, as expected, if any of the automounted shares are busy (any
files open), it won't do anything for them. It's just a "best effort"

I am seeing this issue too. I'm using a laptop with a fully crypted hard
disk, including swap. Typing in this report is actually quite annoying
with the occassional freezes happening.

I have just upgraded from Intrepid to Jaunty. The touchpad for my Sony Vaio
VGN-TX3XP laptop no longer works at all.
Under Intrepid (and before that, on Hardy and Feisty, if I recall correctly)

After more poking around, I've found the problem:
I had acpi=off in the kernel command line (I had added this previously
in order to try to get around some shutdown issues, but it had never
affected laptop detection before now).
With acpi=on (or rather, no acpi definition), lapop-detect -v report
SOLVED:
I've traced the issue to having "acpi=off" on the kernel command line
(had it there due to try to work around some shutdown issues, the
machine would not reliably power off). Removing that, and everything
works again. But until now, that option did not have any effect...

I had this same bug on upgrading to 20.04.
In my case smb.conf had the line:
name resolve order = hosts lmhosts wins bcast
And the smb.conf checking complained with a warning that "hosts" was
invalid.
