Dear Paul,
Thanks for your message; however, I tried it with catfish and unfortunately
there is no alternative and versions 1.4.4–1 and 1.4.5 both have bugs, already
registered and recognized by Canonical.
I have managed to install the “old” catfish, that works better.
Best regards,
Chico
Dear Paul,
Many thanks for your attention; I even tried a fresh install of the
package, but problem persists.

The package affected is not, of course, catfish, but the Sinaptyc

Dear Theo,
Thanks for your reply. I also noticed that one can no longer use
"force version" in Synaptic in 18.04.1; but I guess that should be
the object of another bug report...

Dear Theo,
Thanks for your prompt answer.
Observations :
1. The first time one uses catfish and use the right mouse button on a
SINGLE file, the menu does appear;
2. If two or more files are shined on this same session, then the right
mouse button menu disappears and will not return;
3. I have
Public bug reported:
The above stated problem is present in catfish 1.4.4-1 and in version
1.4.5 (seems to be the latest) in Xubuntu 18.04.1
Data: Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic)
Gnome 3.28.2
Kernel 4.15.0-32-generic
GCC version 7 (x86_64-linux-gnu)
Xorg version 1.19.6 (13 April
Problem persists in kernel 4.10 (XUbuntu) or Ubuntu 16.04.03, with same
warning messages.
It is unwise, in my opinion, to recommend developer options in Synaptics
to the general public. Just put the required fixes in the main
repository!!
Cheers,
Chico Miraglia

I also concur with Aristotelis, Martin and Carol: the probelm only appeared
after updating acroread (I am using a 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04.1), that, in fact,
was done moments ago. The nagging file is small (NPP...), but unles you discard
it, the file grows multiples
of 72 bits EVERYTIME you open
Still persists on 12.04
