After upgrading to Karmic, when I switch to a virtual terminal via ctrl
+ alt + F1 or the like, I get a weird sequence of illegible chars. It
appears to be an odd pattern of flashing underline chars _ as
described on:

I have the same issue..
I've noticed compiz is not acting as expected either. My 3D cube and
such are not working since the upgrade from Ibex to Jaunty.
If you can,, please check to see if your compiz settings are acting
normal. If not, I fear this could be related and should be looked
