Both fixes #8 and #13 work for me on Ubuntu 12.04 32bit. Thank you

Thank you for the workaround Kevin! It got very annoying not being able

I managed find a fix by applying the suggested fixes (paprefs fix and modifying
the default.pa) and also by copying the pulse-cookie file from the user home
directory over the pulse-cookie that can be found in /var/lib/mpd.
I find that this is an unsatisfying and pretty ugly hack.

This problem reappeared in Maverick (for me at least). I tried the
paprefs fix and adding the auth-anonymous=1 line into default.pa (after
uncommented the proper line) without any success. MPD complains about

@John Johansen: I tested the Lucid kernel. Everything works properly
until I go into suspend to memory and come back. When I come back the
paging request OOPS happens. To be honest I think the most of the oopses
happened on Karmic when I woke up the laptop from suspend to memory.

I installed the kernel you suggested from Lucid. It seems that with the
Karmic kernel the issue doesn't go away if I use noapic, because the
system suddenly died after several hours , killing the X server and
messing up the display so I wasn't able to make a bug report after the
kernel oops. I also

Ok, I would be happy to help isolating this issue. I will try the newer kernel
today. I'm afraid I can't get an update for my BIOS because the laptop is out
of warranty and the original BIOS manufacturer (which is Phoenix) doesn't allow
me to get one (at least in the past I couldn't find one on
Also I forgot to mention that all the oopses are reporting paging
request errors around the f76f address (If you need I can provide
all the logs with oopses and all the reported addresses)

The problem is that I tried Lucid kernel before this, because initialy I used

Can something be done about those icons not showing up in the systray
menu? Also is there a chance to have back the behavior that was default
until now (clicking on the systray icon shows/hides the amarok window).
Thanks! :)

It lloks that the packages from Brian's PPA repository finally solved the
freezing issue for me. I'm using modeset and X (without graphical effects) and
the machine is running since morning and didn't freeze at all.
@Brian Rogers Thank you for your amazing work and effort in solving this issue.
@shadetree Thanks! It seems that using Brian's PPA solves the issue in
my case. Until now I didn't got a freeze and I'm using modeset and fully
working X (without vesa driver).

Somewhat works if I disable modeset (nomodeset) and use vesa, but it's
at the limit of usability, if I try to switch between text mode console

the /etc/resolv.conf is overwritten by NetworkManager. Even if I did set

I also confirm this bug. In my case the issue is between Amarok and
Firefox/Flash 9 plugin. Depending on what was started first the other
didn't work. I tried the suggestion of installing libflashsupport and
the issue is solved. It seems a Flash plugin and Pulse Audio interaction
bug.
