The workaround for bug #552214 (comment #16) worked for me. This seems
to be an issue with the ATI driver that has been resolved in newer
kernels.

I'm not sure if my issues were exactly the same as this one.
Suspend/hibernate on my laptop usually works (it has improved since
upgrading to Lucid), however it does flake out in various forms even
now. Haven't been able to find the cause to file a bug report yet.

I have the same problem (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, HP Pavilion dv2-1028, ATI
video card), and the same workaround works. (I haven't tested hibernate
yet.)

The other issue can be related to HAL, which is deprecated. Removing
hal, and halinfo packages solved the mouse problem for me. Despite the
fact that this, in the long run, is the correct solution (hal is
deprecated), you probably want to proceed with caution.

Unfortunately, I have given that laptop away, so I can't test to see if
this bug is fixed in later versions of Ubuntu.
Thanks for looking into this though.

One thing you can do is to try to enable or disable various quirks to
see if it will make your system more stable. On my laptop I found that
disabling all the quirks made my computer functional, although I haven't
had the time to play with all the options yet. To disable them you can

One thing that is probably relevant here are the various quirks that
your computer has enabled for your video card going to sleep. You can
find them by the command lshal | grep power_management, but it's
probably better to upload the output of lshal for this bug.

[Karmic] Resume brings system
I'm glad that helped. I guess you can try enabling some of the quirks,
and maybe it will solve it. I think the man page for vbetool might
explain some of the quirks. If I think of any concrete suggestion I will
let you know.

[RV620] dell studio 15 karmic kernel crash on resume
how to get any information from that crash. Also,
in one instance, the mouse disappeared (it was working, but you could
not see the cursor).
If people who are triaging need help, I'm more than happy to help with
this, but I will appreciate some guidance there.

Ok, the problem seems to be with the video quirks of acpi. Here are the
following steps that lead me to this conclusion:
1) suspend
2) resume
3) switch to vt-1 and then vt-7
4) check the jobs, and notice that 99video and vbetools are still running.
If I kill 99video, then the computer starts

it, I would be happy to hear your result.
I'm curious if the default settings are outdated, and it makes sense to
change them now that acpi has been around for a while, and maybe these
quirks are not doing more harm than good in the generic case.

Following the comment from bug #469734, it seems that hibernate is
working without a problem. So for now, I'm switching to hibernate as
default as well.

This doesn't seem like a duplicate of bug #464552. As the author points

issue. It might be a duplicate of bug #472686.

After suspending laptop, the screen fails to light up, and it seems the
