Digging into /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/tar I found some
answers. Basically the completer doesn't understand the intent argument
"-c" when the intent is not the first argument. That confused the
program and it's trying to extract the index of a (nonexistant) tar file
by running:
tar t

if I may add my two cents, I don't think the problem is related to
unity. This is a driver problem. Of course this is only view, but it
seems obvious to me. The driver is called radeon and all the trouble
started , when AMD stopped the driver support for the "OLD" graphics
cards. They stopped
