I agree, the init script is rather a clumsy approach, but I didn't know

very standard hardware except the hi-res 1600x1200 display.
Konqueror just does not play flash from youtube and the like.

Binary package hint: kile
with aptitude, when having texlive installed, kile won't install because of
broken dependencies, wanting to replace texlive with tetex (discontinued).
this problem doesn't appear with apt-get or synaptic.
this is probably a packaging bug.

I now managed to install the updates by booting into the shell and using
aptitude. However, the updates did not change the crashing behaviour. If
this is of any help: I run my Matrox G450 in a Dual Monitor setup where
both monitors are set to a resolution of 1280x1024.

I still have this crash after signing on. I tried to change my resolution
but when I want to open the display settings in System Settings then
System Setting crashes as well. Additionally I have now problems with the
update manager that has problems committing some changes. I suspect some
I am not sure how to do it right. I tried it once as a normal user and
the second time using sudo.

i had the same issue in ubuntu, but here icon size surely is not the
reason. i can change icon size without harming stability of oo.o.

i'm sorry, you're right. it's the icon size of crystal icon theme which
i forgot to have activated some time. switching to it makes oo.o crash..

but it's not only icon size. it's also second menubar. if you open
oo.o-base, there will be no problem. and there you can switch to any
other view... so choose another look or another size (nor small nor
automatic)...
