Well I use evince the standard PDF viewer, attached the PPD file and the error
log with debug enabled.
By the way, it seems like this PDF does not print well on Windows too.

I got the driver working in very short time!
And I think I will use 64bit because the splash screen works with it (why ever).
I did the following:
Download the source
untar it and cd to the sourcedir
do the following in a terminal:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core x11proto-co

working? What graphics card do you use exactly?
The upstream bug you linked does not deal with xserver-xorg-video-sis it
describes a problem while compiling xserver-xorg-video-tga maybe you are
mixing something up?

SIS Mirage is very tricky to set up using Lucid. When I boot up my laptop from
live CD I get a black screen at first. vga=771 is buggy, too!
When Ubuntu is set up at first there is no problem to install sisimedia if you
know how.

While debugging, I found out, that gnome-power-manager isn't the main problem.
In fact, the power-manager uses pm-suspend, if I kill the power-manager and use
pm-suspend, it crashes. But I just found a workaround, which let me use
suspend/resume without killing gpm, I edited /etc/acpi/sleep.sh.
VN896 Chrome9 HC IGP, the kernel freezes on resume, eg caps does not work!
If I press the suspend hotkey before logging in, the system suspends on login
and resums correctly.
KUbuntu works, too.
I need Suspend/Resume... so please find a solution!
