The preferences in synaptic allow the user to change how the synaptic program interacts with the user. The preferences don't actually changes essential parts of the sytem. I am talking about the actual preferences window/dialog. Not the application as a whole. -- Synaptic should do instant apply

Would it be possible to run synaptic as a user (non-admin) and use gtksu only when admin rights are needed to install. This would allow the program to run as a user, with a11y features, but still grant the rights when it is time to install. Not sure if this is possible, just an idea. --

Public bug reported: I have a thinkpad T42. This bug happens everytime I close my laptop lid. Steps to reproduce 1.) Boot and log into the Ubuntu desktop. 2.) Close laptop lid. 3.) Reopen the lid and find a blank screen. 4.) Slam keys to attemp to bring screen back (this is futile effort). 5.)
