It turns out that this did not resolve the problem. The frequency of
the crashes dropped, but has been rising. I'm now at the point where I
can't use the machine for more than 3 or 4 hours before it crashes.
Sometimes it crashes while I'm not doing anything at all.

it is a problem with xmms and amarok, because everything works fine with
zinf (and it worked fine in breezy with older versions of xmms and

It should be noted that this machine (and card) worked fine with breezy
badger & dapper dan (latest kernel 2.6.15-27). I have actually rebooted

Correct. Problem has nothing to do with firefox.
I switched drivers via the system->administration->hardware drivers menu
option. I changed to the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. I
haven't crashed since I did this, so I think it has resolved the
problem.

It is my entire system that crashes and not just X. ctrl-alt-backspace,
ctrl-alt-del, alt-sysreq-1, alt-sysreq-t all do nothing. I can no
longer ping the system (though I can before the crash).

Correct. Problem has nothing to do with firefox.
I switched drivers via the system->administration->hardware drivers menu
option. I changed to the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. I
haven't crashed since I did this, so I think it has resolved the
problem.

It should be noted that this machine (and card) worked fine with breezy
badger & dapper dan (latest kernel 2.6.15-27). I have actually rebooted
into 2.6.15-27 & confirmed the linksys still works.

When I booted off my install cd I was able to run X, my network, firefox
(3.03 I think). With no problem. So I installed, picked the defaults.
The first time I started firefox, it came up and then I got a blank
white screen with a few very small
It is my entire system that crashes and not just X. ctrl-alt-backspace,
ctrl-alt-del, alt-sysreq-1, alt-sysreq-t all do nothing. I can no
longer ping the system (though I can before the crash).

It appears that I have only one: "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.6".
The next time it crashes, I will disable this one and see if it has any

I can confirm this with xmms (and, by the way even with amarok). Maybe
it is a problem with xmms and amarok, because everything works fine with
zinf (and it worked fine in breezy with older versions of xmms and
amarok).
