It turns out that this did not resolve the problem. The frequency of the crashes dropped, but has been rising. I'm now at the point where I can't use the machine for more than 3 or 4 hours before it crashes. Sometimes it crashes while I'm not doing anything at all. I have applied updates periodi

Correct. Problem has nothing to do with firefox. I switched drivers via the system->administration->hardware drivers menu option. I changed to the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. I haven't crashed since I did this, so I think it has resolved the problem. Thanks. Kurt

Correct. Problem has nothing to do with firefox. I switched drivers via the system->administration->hardware drivers menu option. I changed to the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. I haven't crashed since I did this, so I think it has resolved the problem. Thanks. Kurt
