Also affected: Ubuntu MATE 18.10 -> 19.04 Upgrade. Normal system (not
VM). 18.10 was a hardly used clean install of Ubuntu MATE, up-to-date
patch status before update. Install appears complete and OK ...

here). Occurred during the Meltdown Security update of 16.04.03 install
to Kernel 4.13.

Wimpy, it certainly applies to 17.04 (clean install by Entroware). See
my Bug #1723238 report against 17.04. Sorry didn't find this one before

So I'm new to all this, but it looks as if Debian is correct:

Trusty (14.04) includes meld 1.8.4 - a stable release from meld.
However Utopic (14.10) does not include 1.8.6 - the current stable
