Yes, without the option vga=771 the laptop suspends/resumes properly.
But if I use the option vga=771 or the option splash the notebook suspends,
but is unable to resume.

I am experiencing the same problem with Hardy! Without the 'splash'
kernel option everything is all right, suspend/resume works fine. With
the kernel option 'splash' or with the option 'vga=771' the machine (hp
nx8220) suspends, but is unable to resume. I only get a blank screen.

I had the same problem on hp nx8220. The problem now seems to be solved via
modifying xorg.conf.
In the sever layout section I changed
InputDeviceTouchPad AlwaysCore
InputDeviceMouse CorePointer
to
InputDeviceTouchPad CorePointer
InputDeviceMouse
The same problem on HP nx8220, Gutsy.
No notifications, no actions, notebook discharges to death, even if I unset
use time for policy.
On feisty everything went perfectly.

Hi Pedro.
Meanwhile the problem was solved.
Now everything works with evince, including rendering and the zoom factor of
400%.
I have no idea what the problem was, maybe an inconsistent fontconfig state.
Here is what I did:
1. Removed $HOME/.gnome2/evince/ev-metadata.xml
2. Removed directory

I face the same problem on an IBM T30 laptop. Boot up - USB works (ie.
mouse) - close lid - suspend - open lid - mouse doesn't work
(optical mouse - led not glowing). MODULES variable is empty in my case
in acpi-support.
