The above results in an attempt to open file a and file b.pdf with
evince, when one would expect it to open a b.pdf with evince.
This is on Ubuntu 10.10.
$ apt-cache policy xdg-utils
xdg-utils:

It was in Edgy and the machine is still running Edgy, kept up to date. I
haven't been using USB with it since it sits in a corner running as a server
at the moment, but when I get some spare time I'll give it a couple of days
of run time with some USB stuff.
