Fast forward to End of October 2018 and this is STILL an issue.

I have used gParted to check the drive from another linux on the same

Ah, I see now that there are several points at which it could return
early and not reach the ABS_TOOL_WIDTH code.
I tried out your little patch to force the width to be reported and
captured evtest output during a session of normal computer use. First, I
noticed that still the width was not always

gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSE
This is exactly the problem I encountered and which needs fixing.
As a work around, I added a link to openssl-1.0.0.cnf with the name of
openssl.cnf in the same directory:
cd /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa
sudo ln -s openssl-1.0.0.cnf openssl.cnf
This worked, created the necessary certificate file and it
so have I, but the script whichopensslcnf (in the easy-rsa directory of
openvpn) expects to find an openssl.cnf file in the same directory as
itself

Sory - thats is porely explained.
The problem is the openvpn package needs a openssl.cnf file for the correct
version of openssl which is 1.0.1.
As it does not have one, it defaults to openssl.cnf which does not exist.
Creating a link openssl.cnf >> openssl-1.0.0.cnf seems to solve the problem.

Attempts to do a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 on an HP Probook 6455b
laptop results in the system hanging hard.
The kernel is able to boot and system services start, but somewhere near
(or at) the start of graphics the system hangs. Shown on the console

very close to bug 514594 but nothing is scrambled. Everything plays
fine except H264 mvk files. Works perfectly for about 5 minutes and
then totem shuts down. If I launch it with debug I just get a message
that says aborted.

@Brian Fallik - I did get a message that said "not yet supported
Thinkpad detected" What is that about? I wonder why I can't install
Lucid beta 1 on my machine when the live CD written to a USB key drive
works very well?

I have a brand new Thinkpad SL510. The Lucid Beta 1 live USB flash disk
works very well on this computer. I tried installing the same version
from the alternate .iso and it would not boot. I got a message that an
unsupported Thinkpad had been detected and then it just gave up. An
older version (9.0
I have managed to downgrade to 1.6.1-3ubuntu1. This has solved the issue
for me. Not really a fix though.
To downgrade: -
edit /etc/apt/sources.list and added links to the karmic repositories for the
universe group.
Did a software update.
Opened synaptic package manager
Searched for wicd.
Sel
This problem still occurs if the access point is not hidden. It seems to
relate to the wpa2 key communication.

What worked for me was the following :
- Installed the backports updates with the latets updated drivers
But after a day or so it appeared I couldn't find any networks (this error
appeared random)
- Installed wicd instead of network-manager.
Again only helped temporarily

This did not work at all under Ubuntu 7.10, but after installing Bete of 8.04
in a test partition it came to life following a few CODEC downloads. YouTube

the problem i posted i had with edgy eft-- on a intel board with an on board
vga and extra agp slot- but i have since gotten a new machine and the old one
is packed away- i now have a dell- doing well with ubuntu gutsy- i dont know
whether the bug was fixed or not-- but thanks anyway
