I fixed the sound by trying everything explained in this thread. I
really dont know which one fixed it because I did some changes on my
desktop remotely. You can start by trying what's posted on comment #27.
It would also help a lot if you try this:
1. Reboot your computer.
2. Look at your /var/
Is there a way that we can apply the fix to karmic or will we have to
wait to upgrade to lucid?
Every time I log in to my machine I have to use gnome-alsamixer to

high. I am unable to use the pulse audio icon volume in my p
any developments on this bug? The obvious solution is to just uninstall
pulse audio but then I have to configure alsa manually and that is a
pain. The same issue is affecting. both my laptop and desktop. I am
using karmic in ubuntustudio.

I am experiencing the same issue on my laptop using karmic ubuntu

from my laptop and everything was fine, after a reboot my sound settings

I have tested sound on my desktop for quite some days and it looks like
my desktop is working fine. The only installation I did was the updates
which I do on a regular basis, one of the updates must have fixed the
issue.

I have been following this thread and experienced the issue and
installing the updates on a regular schedule. Whatever update has

I attempted to log the errors after sound failed on my laptop but
nothing was logged, the process that was logging the errors simply died
and nothing was logged. The log I am sending attached to this message
are the errors that were logged before the crash.
I solved the sound issues on my laptop
I had the same problem with my Latitude D610 laptop after I removed
pulseaudio the fix was to install gnome-alsamixer and I clicked on
"External Amplifier" and sound on my laptop's speakers were working

No sound from Laptop speakers, but headphones. my solution
https://bugs.launchpad.n
I am using Urban Terror on my desktop to test sound. I will test that
change in the following days.
However I am experiencing the same problem on my laptop using karmic. I
notice the bug while using rhythmbox. This time I gathered a few other
details:
This is the same message I get every time
I rebooted my desktop after I made all the changes. Once I had sound
working again I played Urban terror on different days and checked
/var/log/messages after the sound failed, I consistently saw those
messages logged.
Everytime I reboot my machine these are the last lines I see on
/var/log/messa
Changing the 's' to an 'e' in this line:
TIM_ALSASEQPARAMS="-Os"
Effectively kills my sound on both desktop and laptop. I have been
testing more on my desktop and the sound goes off after playing about
20~30 minutes or Urban Terror.
In /var/log/messages I always see these lines:
Dec 11 12:03:0
sudo fuser -v /dev/dsp* /dev/snd/*
USERPID ACCESS COMMAND
/dev/snd/controlC0: elf4432 F pulseaudio
/dev/snd/controlC1: elf4432 F pulseaudio
/dev/snd/controlC2: elf4432 F pulseaudio
/dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: elf4432 F...m pulsea
Interesting, here is the output on my desktop while I was playing Urban
Terror. Firefox loses sound consistently on my laptop while watching
youtube videos, I go play a video and then go another tab and begin
browsing and sound dies.
I very rarely watch youtube videos on my desktop. I have noti
I have a dual boot with xp although I only use xp to sync my phone. I
think the bug is related with firefox, I have noticed FF lose sound
while listening to youtube videos & web surfing on another tab. Other
users are experiencing the same issue and have noticed the bug while
playing UrT.I noticed
sound dies on my laptop while I'm listening to rhythmbox or a youtube
video using firefox. I reboot the application and then I get sound
again. I am using karmic. I only noticed this in the past few weeks. I
first installed karmic alpha 6 version and never had an issue with it
until a few weeks
