The solution was to set the kernel parameter acpi=off in the grub config. Unfortunately I cannot access the PC anymore to try out different kernels. Feel free to close this bug and keep the suggested workaround here for documentation. In case more info are needed i might get remo -- You

Same issue here with Radeon HD 7560D. Blank screen or resolution stuck at 600x800. Unusable. Sorry I cannot apport right now. But I noticed one thing: booting ubuntu as UEFI has the issue. Booting the same partition from a separate Arch partition without UEFI, loaded ubuntu full resolution

I am going to add myself to the long list of affected user, maybe more info will help. I could reproduce the reboot issue in two cases: 1) live xubuntu 14.04 Usb while trying to install but also just trying it out ( always reboot after the login screen) 2) booting directly from the hard disk
