The problem was so bad for me I gave up on Xubuntu altogether and installed
Manjaro (Arch fork) with the XFCE GUI.
I haven't had the issue on Manjaro and I have it on multiple computers. So it
doesn't seem to be specifically an XFCE problem...

The workaround I posted in comment #8 survived 1 reboot. After the
second reboot Thunar started crashing again. :-[

This is a bug affecting multiple applications- 6 at this writing. It is
difficult to explain. It also seems to be getting worse.
So far: GIMP, Inkscape, XFCE SCreenshot, GPRename, AviDemux, and
PyRenamer.
Symptoms: if a program has an input field box with up/down arrow
And meanwhile, that little hack I posted in #54 is still working for me,
boot after boot after boot.
Go figure. :-)

I am using Xubuntu 12.04, 3.2.0-25-generic #40-Ubuntu.
I have a Logitech M570 wireless trackball, and I am experiencing the
same problem.
