redrawing of the windows desktop is not always "clean". Afterimages of
window shadows are visible even so the window has been closed. When
dragging a new window over the afterimage, they disappear and the
desktop looks normal again.

Was just confused with the many mouse entries in the xinfo list. For me

Due to lack of documentation, I invoked the command with the wrong
arguments. It dynamically build *.so filenames dependant ont the
commandline. I figured out that this line does indeed work, as the
dependency then resolves to libgenerator_smoke.so, which is provided by
the dependencies.

DIAGNOSIS: selecting an older kernel was indeed working - but only every
now and then. Tip: A "Starting ..." will appear when the boot will work
and a void disc with a simple cursor "_" on the screen when fails.

My usb hard drive is detected after boot and is fine in gnome. But when
seleting wmaker as my window manager, it is not available after booting.
Amarok or rhythmbox for example will not find music located on the disk.
TRICK: Once I plug out and in
Ubuntu 9.04 stoppped booting with this GRUB message, after update to
most recent amd64 kernel. Selecting an alternative (older) kernel from
the boot option brings my system up. Clearly, this is highly likely
kernel releated !
