After doing some research I discovered I did not need or whant snaps at all.
They are like having repeat copies of OS portions loaded on disk and memory,
thus very slow and consumming.
Just purged snapd and put a block on them at this URL:

For me this is still happening and I have other problems with nautilus
such as desktop icons disappearing when there is activity like open or
close nautilus or firefox. The same happend in ubutnu-gnome 14.04 LTS ad
now 16.04 LTS. I was dragged into updating to 16 as support told me no
help as this

Samba opens but when connect is clicked it just goes away and nothing happens.

Mine is version Ubuntu 14.04.5 with gnome desk-top. and the crash report
indicates nautilus 1:3.10.1 0ubutntu 9.11

Just because yours broke something is not a reason for me to change an
LTS version to the sequential LTS version. I no longer have the will or
desire to do BETA testing like I did in the 80's and 90's. I am 63 and
running out of time and my health is very poor, so my time is better

I was not able to downgrade (force version) in synaptic apache2, though
selected it did nothing. So I had to remove:

I can't troubleshoot this, but I have had the same result with
Linux-headers-4.4.0-x-generic, Linux-image-4.4.0-x-generic,

Seems to me for the Linux packages are listed more then once for the update
