Okay so this is definitely a problem of python 2.6 using "dist-packages"
instead of "site-packages".
So the package would need a rebuild with the latest debian python
helpers.

Using jaunty, there is no digital out (optical SPDIF) with snd-hda-intel
and VT1708S. The digital out audio device is not listed in possible
output devices. The mother board is an ASUS P5QPL-VM which has an
optical SPDIF out at the back.
