I always boot 10.04 Lucid Lynx with the verbose option as a workaround
to Bug #701060.
I have just experienced new behaviour to this screen resolution bug.
The screen of verbose text prior to the user login screen blinked and
lost the previous saved resolution setting.
Rebooting reset the screen
On the regular non-encrypted home machine that runs jacksum fast, the following
java related products were found in Ubuntu software centre:
- openjdk java 6 runtime
- openjdk java 6 web start
- openoffice.org base
I uninstalled the runtime. The 3 products above were removed. The following
pack
I tested the Ubuntu native md5sum program on the encrypted home and got
record fast completion, just a few seconds.
This has to be a java issue.
I will investigate this weekend and report back.

The hard drive, in both cases, is a 5400 rpm traditional spinning disc.
The regular drive is 160 GB while the encrypted one is 320 GB.

Ubuntu 11.10 fails as per AMD64 boot in the initial post except that the GRUB
version is
- GRUB screen version 1.99-12ubuntu5
The big surprise (for me) was that Ubuntu 11.04 works:
Yes, the VGA monitor is fed by the VGA output from the desktop.
The HDMI desktop output cannot be connected because the old monitor does
not support HDMI.

Title:
Lenovo H415 desktop AMD A6-3600 G
The 3 test boots were all from liveCD versions.
I must return this machine in about 1 week, so any testing on my end
needs to be done quickly.
This bug was reported from another machine because the AMD64 test
machine will not boot. No apport-collect is possible.

The apps in comments 6 and 7 launched by default into the upper left
corner and forced the Unity launcher to auto-hide.
If I move the app window to the right, like this browser, then the Unity
launcher reappears.

I booted into Unity using a standard (non-admin) account with default
encryption and launched an app from Dash.
I got the lower panel as per attached screenshot.
That is very strange behaviour for Unity.

I have installed the LXDE desktop and launched KMyMoney.
I got the default large horizontal window as per screenshot in comment #

Then, I RESIZED to the smallest horizontal setting as per attached
