As requested on ubuntu-devel-announce [1] I've performed the
suspend_test --full test. Unfortunately, the first test fails. In this
test, the laptop is suspended and a wakeup-timer is set up. The wakeup-
timer doesn't do what it's supposed to do and my laptop will only come
by
COLUMN_NUMBER by default, instead of aborting. Probably not the best
solution... I recompiled the vlc package in my PPA and finally I can
startup vlc :).
Follow the instructions at https://launchpad.net/~petski to enable my
PPA in case you want to test the package.

I wrote a small shell script (see attachment) that traces the whole
process-tree for file related system calls.
IMHO that's not totally true. I've tried to access the page while
running a sniffer (port 53) in the background. You can see the host gets
queried and the response is valid as well.

I suspect you're using mailer = SMTP.
I just looked at the source code for Email::Send::SMTP, and noticed that
QUIT is only called in two scenario's:
1) The Email::Send object get's out of scope
2) send() is called for the second time (which seems weird).
A workaround could be:
1) Make sure

suffer from bug 275410 anymore. In case the Gnome Terminal and aMSN bug

I've just tried to reproduce this issue on Linux workmate

I tried to make a full backtrace when I was logged in remotely. I
noticed that the laptop hangs in total. This issue isn't X related.
I think it's best to just close this bug, and create a new one?

I booted my laptop, did a Control-Alt-F1 and closed the lid. This
resulted in a kernel panic. Attached you'll find the
logfiles/screenshots.
I also tried with a 2.6.24-16 kernel, which resulted in a kernel panic
as well.
I also tried to boot with a Ubuntu 7.10 live CD. This runs kernel
2.6.22-14
