So these are actually 2 matters:
- the boot menu, for which i like Colin Watson's idea above
- Reminding people (not necessarily the same person) that data is not saved on
harddrive and will be gone on shutdown/reboot unless actively saved on-line,

I know what a liveCD is for, however
- what if you don't know you're running a liveCD (the sysadmin might have put
it in, you're a noob), or you just forgot, then a restart can throw away some
important data (docs on the desktop for example)
