Colin,
I am unaware of how to do option 1. I've tried echo'ing the selection
number using Teletype frontend but it wouldn't take that particular question.
Sorry.. still new to debconf. Option 2 sounds suitable. Curious: would there be
a problem with honoring the GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID
Phillip,
I see your point about installing grub to other devices. However, its not
so easy to just run dpkg-reconfigure after the uuid's change. I admin 150+
machines and the prompting for the install device debconf wants to make on each
machine would be a nightmare unless I wrote expect

Binary package hint: grub-pc
On initial install of grub-pc, debconf prompts the user to select which
device he/she would like to install grub to and then records the
selection in grub-pc/install_device in apt's databases. I think if

Thanks, I didn't even think of ACL's. Do you know what package
specifically is doing this (gvfs?) and/or how to disable it?

Thanks Chris but why not Lucid to? I have an organization of 150+ machines
using it and upgrading to Maverick just like that for firefox would not be
ideal. I thought we were supposed to have continued support for on older
systems for while?
I can continue to patch for Lucid but just curious
I see. Thank you for the clarification and tending to this bug.

Using openoffice 3.2.0-7ubuntu4.1 in Lucid I experience this problem only in
NFSv4. If I unset the SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING (setting to 1 or 0 does not work)
variable file locking for NFSv3 and NFSv4 continue to work fine and I no longer
get the 'Error saving to shared file' messages in NFSv4.
Reporting Back: Everything has been doing well for 150+ machines.

There is an additional patch upstream:

Without it I still get random cursor freezes on ANY video card trying to use

I've applied it to all 150 which use a mix of

I had a similar problem and as a workaround I stopped cups service, removed
/var/cache/cups/remote.cache, and restarted cups.
Obviously a caching mechanism done by cups but the changes I made to the print
server were over a day old -Far too long to be holding onto in cache...
