I remember that having ONE open session worked for me, but I will try to
replicate the bug again at home (i'm at work with no Ubuntu :( )
I only record read-only dvd's, which are of course completely erased to
start with, so it doesn't only happen with dvd-rw's.

No, I'm using Nero for Linux, so I don't think it's in either Brasero or
Nero, it's somewhere deeper.
What can I say, compared to other bugs Ubuntu has, this is nothing...

After burning a multisession CD or DVD and leaving it "open" - so as to
be able to burn another session later - Ubuntu is not able to mount the
resulting disc. Exception: there is only one session recorded, or the
disc is marked as closed, or finalized.
