Benjamin Peterson, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-liv
Same problem, MacBook Pro 8,2.
I tried noacpi, and it makes no difference. I also tried adding the outb
commands to Grub in order to switch from the ATI discrete card to the Intel
integrated one. This resulted in the screen turning on with some garbage
(12.04) or what appears to be a dark maroon
Please try using the "noacpi" option and report back if that helps.

1. Started it with the alt-option key down to bring up the boot menu.
2. Inserted the Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop CD.
3. Selected the "EFI Boot" drive

I thought I saw a 3.0 kernel.
