Same problem, MacBook Pro 8,2. I tried noacpi, and it makes no difference. I also tried adding the outb commands to Grub in order to switch from the ATI discrete card to the Intel integrated one. This resulted in the screen turning on with some garbage (12.04) or what appears to be a dark maroon
