In Gutsy (2.6.22-14-generic) running gnumeric 1.7.11 (reinstalled today, just in case) I get "Unsupported file format" when I try to open an xls file. Several other strange behaviours: - no listing of xls files as spreadsheets - "Help/About" does not work I'm not sure why Julian if finding it "

Fixed with Ubuntu Gutsy RC, and Gnumeric 1.7.11 A workaround for the above problem was to install gnumeric-gtk which allowed you to open xls files, but then not use the gnueric extra plugins du eto dependencies. But anyway, fixed using standard gnumeric package only in Ubuntu Gutsy. -- gnumeric

I get the same problems whenever I open any xls files in Gnumeric. Its quite frustrating, as opening xls files is one one Gnumerics main strengths ! Unfortunately, I have to go back to Windows to use Gnumeric rather than Feisty. Info - Running Feisty full version and files created in MS Office 2
