The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

EXACTLY the same problem here, still the ALC883 but on the ICH8. My

It strange that you can't register - I had no problems at all (after I
retrieved the confirmation mail from the GMail spam box where it got dropped,
that is =) ).
My kind of laptop has been on the market for at least a year now, so no - it's
not that new.
>From what I think I know about code
Good .. ive been trying like crazy to register to no avail .. Hopefully
they will add support for 1.0.16.
A search for ALC883 reveals a bunch of 'no sound' issues; I just got
this machine, is that chipset relatively new ?
And what is "eapd" ? (from the laptop-eapd model that seems to work.)

Hi,
I reported this on the ALSA bug tracker, issue #0003544.
I put in a link to this report as well.

well ive have tried laptop-eapd and it does work, somewhat, as you say,
because I find it sounded kinda thin compared to what this laptop can
do. But at least now I know its *possible* that it might work .. :P
As for headphones, you could always mute off the "side" level, which is
the one that se
yep well I'll try that.
Actually Im not sure if this could be called a bug more than a lack of
hardware support, you know?
Seems like its just that our laptops use a particular hardware
configuration that alsa's can't quite figure out just yet. Im just
surprise not more people reported on that.
Hi!
Yes, this is definitely an ALSA issue rather than a specific problem
with Ubuntu.
Actually, with Gutsy I can get speaker sound with my laptop (M1 Pro
Express Dual) using an option to the snd-intel-hda ALSA driver - I have
put the following in /etc/modprobe.d/options: options snd-hda-intel
I have the *exact* same problem with my LG S1 laptop. Probably an Alsa
issue, as I am not running ubuntu, but arch linux. All modules load
fine, and I get sound fine except none from the built in speakers.
This is the 1st time I see this issue talked about anywhere and its
about time cause I thoug
i was hoping with the latest Gutsy upgrade this may have been solved,
but it is still an issue I also have an L.G p1 express with realtek ALC883
all other issues with this laptop have been fixed with the latest gutsy
release,
if only we can sort out this sound issue then it will be 100% gutsy co
I have the same problem with Dell Vostro 1500 ( sound comes out of
headphone but not out of speakers)

Hi!
It would seem that I have a similar problem with my LG M1 Express laptop. It
apparently uses the same audio chip as the P1.
The sound works fine except for the fact that the speakers are never heard no
matter what I do.
My laptop seems to be slightly different in configuration from the P
