Screensaver crashes are usually libGL specific, in this case it's nvidia
-> l-r-m.
Others should check the bugs on mesa.

I have the same problem with Ubuntu 7.04 on an Asus P5B-V mobo with
integrated Intel G965 graphics and 2 GB ram. It also have random
screensavers and some hang and some don't. When it hangs I can switch to
a virtual console, but I can't seem to get my desktop back without
rebooting. I have Desktop

Do you have hal packages installed from feisty-backports?
I had the same issue but after replacing hal packages with those from the main
repo everything's fine again.

Tested my desktop the other day w/ random screensaver config.
Problem is gone, it seems, by adding the 64 meg Nvidia and inactivating
the onboard video. Overall RAM is only 256 Meg, and attaching a video
board made some difference.

I'm having the same issue running Ubuntu 7.04 on a HP dc5700, using just
the onboard video. It only seems to happen when gone overnight, the
screensaver will come back and give me the login prompt if i've been
gone for just a few minutes, or an hour or two. It's very frustrating,

I am experiencing these same symptoms on my Dapper Drake installation.
I have random screensavers set to go off after 15 minutes of idle. It
doesn't seem to matter which screensaver runs, but it may be fine for
several days, or it may happen within one day.
I do not use nVidia--I have an ATI Rade

Yes, I am using the Nvidia restricted drivers to run Beryl. But I have
also had the freezes on the same system running compiz. Without
additional applets, I have been running for over a day now without
problems.
This is going to be fun to solve.

The freezing occurs regardless of what applets I have in the panel, and
it occurs regardless of what programs are running.
Do you have nVidia drivers?

I am seeing similar behaviour, but I don't have AMD64. Mine started
soon after I added applets (weather applet) to the panel. Seems to have
gone once I removed the applet.
Anything similar in your problem?
