Seems to work fine with v3.9-rc1 I have been using it for a few days and
has not experienced an issue with hibernate so far. Has a fix been
applied to this kernel for this issue in particular? Thanks for the
help!

Thanks for testing, Orlin. I had an issue building the next test

Looks like kernel http://people.canonical.com/~jsalisbury/lp1081876 has
the bug. It worked and successfully hibernated 2-3 times and then
started to fail consisntently. The difference is that it would not
shutdown the machine, it bring is back to Unity screen after hibernate
fails. I see a lot of

Sorry spoke too soon, just after I posted my reply, tried to hibernate
again, and it failed, printed a lot of errors in terminal screen and
failed to shut-down, it came back to unity desktop.

Hibernate fails with IO errors on Lenovo 3000
Interesting results with kernel:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.7-rc7-raring/
First attempt to hibernate the Unity closed as expected, in terminal
screen some io errors were printed out and then the Unity interface was
reloaded back and the laptop did not go into hibernate but
So it sounds like you can reproduce this bug with v3.5-rc1 but not with
v3.4 final. If that is the case I will start a kernel bisect between
v3.4 and v3.5-rc1. I'll post a test kernel shortly.

Can you also test the following kernels to narrow down which v3.5

Can you also test the following kernels and report back? We are looking
for the first kernel version that exhibits this bug:
v3.3 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.3-precise/
v3.4 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-quantal/
v3.5-rc4:

v3.4 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-quantal/

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This
will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of the
introduction of a regression, and when this regression was introduced.
** Changed
It started happening after an upgrade from 12.04 with Kernel Linux
3.2.0-33-generic.
Then I did a clean 12.10 install and the issue was reproducible as well.
Downgraded the Kernel of the 12.10 clean install to Kernel Linux
3.2.0-33-generic and the issue is gone. Seems to be introduced after

I'd like to perform a kernel bisect to identify the commit that caused
this regression. Can you test the following two kernels and report
back:
v3.2.30: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.2.30-precise/
v3.2.31: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.2.31-precise/

I tried with both versions of the kernel, the first one fails to start-
up the unity interface, it fails before login prompt with v3.2.30.
With 3.2.31-030231-generic hibernate works fine- no issues.
I hope that helps,

The latest mainline build 3.7 fails the same way with I/O errors,
except, it manages to power off the machine. Upon power on, the machine
performs a clean boot instead of resuming from hibernate.
