I too see this error on my other workstation FC6 with Beryl I do not
have the same results, here is an strace from the event. I tested this
against the standard package and the downloaded current release of 2.44
from the blender.org website.

Looks like its the python 2.5 rev, the 2.4 rev of the blender.org
downloads doesn't have the problem Woo hoo.. I guess you guys just need
to roll the 2.4 python edition or figure out what it is with py 2.5 that
is crashing. Hope my strace out file helps
