My Acer Travelmate also does not "wake" from Suspend. I am using Ubuntu 8.10
I have attached my dmesg output for review.
Situation: when I leave my laptop ON and go away from it for awhile it
goes to the Suspend mode. When push a key (usually I push the space
bar) my background will display

box of vertical wavy lines.
I am running Feisty on a HP Pavillion dv6000.
I have not tried your workarounds as they indicate wifi is broken with a
fix that uses a program for Acer hot keys and I thought I best not risk
it.

I mention feisty, but have not tried any other distros. I tried Fedora
3(?) a few years ago and suspend to RAM didn't work in that either.

working at all (a different bug no doubt).
