Hi All, I'm marking this bug as won't fix for Unity 7 because we are
unable to differentiate between which device is sending the scroll
event. However we should be able respond differently to different types
of input device in Unity 8, so this should be something we can do in the
future.

The bug *is not specifically about the two-finger scroll*. That was
added later (see the history). It's about any scroll -- any scroll
should move the items on the launcher. Should I open another report, or
can I reopen this one?

Title:
Launcher - Two finger scrolling doesn't permit navigating through
icons
Currently, if you hold down the Alt key and then use either the mouse
wheel or two-finger/edge touchpad scroll, then the Launcher will scroll
up or down. Bug #1081843 is what changed this design.
Design has said that the desired solution be that two finger scrolling

After looking through the Nux code, there is no current way to know what
type of device is sending the scroll event. It would require a huge re-
work of Nux to do this. That said, the proposed desired solution is not
possible.
I will ask John Lea of design if he has any other solution on how
Is there a way to go back to the previous behaviour? To make the one
that now requires an alt key the default? A setting maybe? To get the
scroll -- regardless of whether it's a two finger scroll, edge scroll,
or a mouse wheel -- to move the items on the launcher?

Yes, I am starting to get annoyed with this... Why was the topic's name
changed in the first place? This should not matter if it deals with
mice or touchpads, it's obvious the users would like to be able to
toggle through their launchbar (apps) by using the mouse wheel OR
touchpad scrolling.

** Description changed:
In Ubuntu 12.10 and earlier, two finger scrolling with the cursor over
the Launcher allowed to move the column of icons and reach those below
the bottom edge of the screen. It was especially useful on smaller
screens (like my 13.3 laptop) with multiple apps in the
This is not just about two fingers. Mouse/trackball scrolling is also
disabled in the Launcher. It was working in 12.10.

I was going to post a similar comment but two-finger scrolling seems to
be functionally the same as mouse wheel or touchpad edge scroll.
