At this point, both the rf_kill *and* the power/state interfaces are
obsolete, and AFAIK they're unused in the current kernels in Ubuntu 8.10
and beyond. I'm not sure if this bug is even still an issue, but I
don't think there's any point in fixing it for Ubuntu 9.04.

I'm currently working on collecting available patches for the acpi-support
module.
Can you please look at bug 180598 and report back if the patch there fixes the
same issue? Thank you.

I've been looking around and found lots of references to "rf_kill" when
relating to ipw2200 (which I believe is for the Intel wireless card).
My laptop has the "IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter II" and uses the
madwifi drivers (I believe). I'm just guessing, but I'm wondering if maybe th
I can confirm that I am having the same problem, which means that the
toggleAllWirelessStates function does not work as it should.
I am running a Thinkpad Z60m with 2.6.20-16-generic with acpi_support 0.95 in
Feisty Fawn (7.04).
I also receive the same error as Herbert:
# echo -n 2 > ath0/device
My acpi_support is 0.95

The attached patch changes the behaviour as stated in the script, but I
couldn't verify whether it's correct - my thinkpad T40p with
2.6.20-16-generic reports errors when writing to power/state:
# echo -n 2 > ath0/device/power/state
-bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument
