This is fixed in the upstream 3.19.1 kernel by the following commit:

Confirmed here too. This issue has not been resolved in ubuntu 14.04
64bit. Bought a brandnew toshiba S50-A /S50t-A with no sound after
succesfull installation with a dualboot installation with windows 8 in
UEFI mode. Sound indicators work, but silence from speakers and
headphone jacks...
~$ aplay
** No longer affects: alsa-driver (Fedora)

like Ron said, if I boot into CSM mode ( which I think is legacy bios), the
sound works fine. I did that using a live usb. So seems to me this bug is more
connected to the boot mode than the driver itself. maybe there is some command
line parameter that we can set in grub default and get this fi

I managed to break my ubuntu install and in the process of fixing the
problem I fixed the sound issue.
I had setup my own partition table and when I rebooted Ubuntu compliened
about the /boot/efi was corrupt. In the process of fixing the problem
one sugguestion was to ensure that the BIOS bootspee
