My submission was marked as a duplicate of this one. However, my
problems have to do with launching with a Creative Zen V attached.
itunesdb is not an issue on this device.

You received this bug notification because
I have exactly the same issue as fricot and checked the source of
libgpod, here is the problematic fragment:
85 db_parse_context_set_total_len (DBParseContext *ctx, off_t len)
86 {
87 /* FIXME: this can probably happen in malformed itunesdb files,
88* don't g_assert on this,
I have the same issue with my 16Gb iPod nano on my Ubuntu 8.0.4.2:
** RhythmDB:ERROR:(rhythmdb.c:2898):rhythmdb_entry_set_internal: assertion
failed: (g_utf8_validate (g_value_get_string (value), -1, NULL))

I have the same issue on Hardy Intrepid. With iPod connected and
regularly mounted:

e in ArtworkDB sono incompatibili (0+0 != 270001)

I'm having the same problem on Hardy with Rhythmbox and a 1G iPod Shuttle.
Rhythmbox was working fine until I decided to try Brasero. After install,
neither would talk to the IPOD and Rhythmbox would crash. I purged Brasero,
but that did absolutely no good. The only thing I get after the
Whoops, change Brasero to Banshee in the last post.
At least I got the first letter right. ;-)

I have the same issue when using a brand new 8GB iPod. If I disable the
iPod plugin in Rhythmbox then the issue goes away. Plugging in the
device with this plugin enabled also crashes any open Rhythmbox windows.
If Rhythmbox and Amarok use the same plugin to talk to iPods maybe this
is the source?
FYI some additional information on what happens when I try to connect
the same ipod to Amarok: clearly it's not JUST a Rythmbox issue, but
neither player gives useful feedback to the user:

Thank you for your bug. Could you get a backtrace with libglib2.0-0-dbg
libgtk2.0-0-dbg rhythmbox-dbg installed?

rhythmbox crashes on start
I could not install rhythmbox-dbg:
$ sudo apt-get install libglib2.0-0-dbg libgtk2.0-0-dbg rhythmbox-dbg
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package rhythmbox-dbg is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean
install rhythmbox-dbgsym (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash)
then

I got somewhere, still unsure how to use /usr/lib/debug though...

The debug packages are used automatically by gdb, I've sent the bug
