There may have been a problem internally. Last night I went to view a
dvd. It would not work with any of the programs I have, so I installed
Xine. It still did not play, so it was possible that the disc was bad.
Plus there have been a few updates The most recent was

You said this only happens when launching files via nautilus, so this
sounds like a nautilus problem then. Are you using a custom launcher or
customized "Open with" command for mpg/mpeg video files? If you right
click the .mpg video file in nautilus, select Open With tab and select
VLC from the lis

I cannot reproduce this on gutsy, vlc 0.8.6.release.c-0ubuntu1. What Ubuntu and
vlc version are you using?

Also It works ok, if I right click the file and open with VLC. It only
happens if I click the file itself.
