Hi! I just got this on gutsy tribe5 after upgrading xorg from 7.2-5ubuntu6 to
7.2-5ubuntu9. It's on a dell vostro 1700 laptop (AMD64, dual core). I also
updated about 200 other packages (just after installing tribe5) so can't be
sure it's xorg-server's fault but xserver crashes with exactly
Just an update: I can confirm that after downgrading these three the bug is
gone:
* xorg 1:7.2-5ubuntu9 - 1:7.2-5ubuntu6
* xserver-xorg 1:7.2-5ubuntu9 - 1:7.2-5ubuntu6
* xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu4 - 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-6ubuntu3
After downgrading the last one X started working again.
This is NOT solved!!!
I have the same problem here and has this for over a month on my laptop.
Tried also to reinstall ubuntu from a nighly build and still the problem is
there. Screen goes black and nothing happens.
Also tried start X from a remote machine and it gives me this:
thanks for the feedback; closing the report, it's not seen by anybody
else. in the meantime both glibc and server-xorg were upgraded in gutsy.
please reopne the report if that shows up again.
** Changed in: glibc (Ubuntu)
Status: New = Invalid
** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
Status:
upgraded the above xorg packages today to latest gutsy versions and X is still
working after restart. So I guess the bug can be closed.
Strange it worked for everybody else, though...

Downgrading to the feisty versions of xorg, xserver-xorg, xserver-xorg-core,
xserver-xorg-input-all ( drivers), xserver-xorg-video-all (drivers) solved
the problem, so it's probably not directly related to glibc.
I'm going to do some tests to find the real culprit out of these.
