Is this still an issue since Gutsy 7.10 came out? Sounds from the
comments like it was a beta (Tribe 5) issue. If the issue still exist,
we can mark it confirmed and assign it a package, which would help it
get fixed. Otherwise we can mark it invalid and clean up Launchpad a bit
:-)

Olivier's solution worked perfectly. All USB drives work once again!

I solved my problem : having installed ubuntu from an usb key, there was
a CD-ROM entry /dev/sdb1 in my fstab, which is the usual reference of
any external device I might plug.
Good luck with your problem.

Gutsy - Kubuntu - USB Flash Drive does not automount
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/12
I can confirm this on my kubuntu Gutsy, after doing a fresh install of
the beta version.
As far as I am conserned, this error is reported by
kio_media_mounthelper in a popup window when I try to mount it, either
by double click or via the right click :
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superb
I confirm this, Gutsy KDE automount doesn't work and media manager is
disabled (that's what media:/ says..)

Since the last update, automount doesn't work anymore.
I'm using gnome, so i think the problem relies at udev or hal?

My problem is very similar to yours when you have kded off. The only
differences are that I have kded running, and media:/ shows all of my
drives, except any flash drives I have plugged in. However, like you, I
do get a new device in /dev and no popup.
Perhaps this isn't a bug, just something I br
I'm using latest Kubuntu Gutsy and automount was totally broken a few
days ago. It used to work just fine then I saw some new KDE packages
with comments like this one:
kdebase (4:3.5.7-1ubuntu14)
Drop kubuntu_73_nomediaioslave_mounthelper.diff, kubuntu_76_kickermedia.diff
and kubuntu_83_media_de
My bad: I realized that automount wasn't working because I killed kded.
I have to kill it because it sometimes eats all my cpu. I'll open
another bug report for this or see if someone else reported the same
problem.
