Since the encrypted partitioning crashes, I am assuming that this is
being treated as a bug not an incomplete feature. The Ubuntu-14.04 lists
Full Disk Encryption as a capability that exists and is usable.
I have tried using both the Mini.iso and server to create and encrypt
multiple logical

At the moment ubiquity installer only supports encryption and lvm upon
wipe clean install on to the whole drive.
If you want to activate existing encrypted volumes and/or use multiple
partitions (e.g. dual-boot etc) please use mini.iso from
