On my Dell Inspiron 7537 the wifi is working very well on 3.16 (trusty), however I experience frequent disconnections on 3.19 kernel (vivid). After I get disconnected, no APs are visible by Unity wifi applet. However, using wavemon to connect to a network fixes everything for about 1 hour.

The easiest way I know of for you to test the 3.16 driver with 3.13 is by using the drivers from the backports project. Unfortunately there is no prebuilt version for Ubuntu, so you'll have to manually build and install the drivers. If you want to give this a try see
